A girl lies amidst the trees. She cannot move. Luckily she is not alone; you are there, her beloved audience. She starts talking, because it's always easier to talk to strangers. In a rhythmic stream of words, she takes her audience to a mysterious forest, a mythical place where big stories persevere and beging together is the key to consolation.
They never promised you a rose garden is a visual ode to the beauty of grief. A fairytale, an ode to my mother, a farewell ritual, a celebration because all is round: breasts, belly, earth, universe.

From the press: "Origineel is Sofie Kramer met Er is je nooit een rozentuin beloofd. Op een wit doek in een donkere plek in het bos ligt zij languit in een rood gevlekte jurk. In die positie spreekt ze haar monoloog uit, een tekst die associatief in elkaar steekt en vooral gaat over afscheid. Liggend is het moeilijk om contact te maken met je publiek, maar Kramer krijgt dat wel voor elkaar. Fascinerend en knap is dat ze ondanks haar horizontale positie verschillende gemoedstoestanden weet op te roepen, van liefde tot angst en berusting." - Scènes
