Monolith 2: The White Piece is a high-voltage collision of pole dance, sound art, and fashion — the third electrifying collaboration between performer and pole artist Sofie Kramer and composer/instrument designer Mári Mákó.
Rooted in the ideas of A Cyborg Manifesto by Donna Haraway and Women Who Run With the Wolves by Clarissa Pinkola Estès, the piece remixes cyborg theory with fairy-tale symbolism and collective feminine archetypes. It is both a ritual and a remix — a quest for freedom unfolding through the deep entanglement of body, sound, and imagination. Think sacred ritual meets futuristic club energy. Think steel, sweat, instinct, and digital veins.
At its core: a pole that doesn’t just get danced on — it listens.
The team transformed a dancing pole into a custom sensory instrument that responds to touch and proximity. Every slide, grip, hover, and breath generates sound. The stage becomes a feedback loop. Movement is music. Music is movement. Controller and controlled collide.
The result? An ecstatic, otherworldly trip where the pole morphs from industrial object to sacred portal. Expectations around pole dance are teased, twisted, and completely flipped.
Fashion designer Batuhan Demir amplifies the transformation with a bold, sculptural look made from fleece, black feathers, plastic, and tape — raw materials hacked into high ritual couture.
Monolith 2 is a futurist-feminist fever dream: a sweaty cyborg fairytale that pulses between instinct and control, myth and machine. A liberation ritual for bodies that refuse to stay in one category.
Monolith 2 was made with support of VIA ZUID, Rooms Festival, United Cowboys, Cultuurfonds Limburg and Amarte Fonds.
